A Plea To My Fellow Conservative #NeverTrumpers

I’ve been fairly active on Twitter the last few weeks, and I’ve seen a disturbing trend. People who claim to be conservatives opposed to Trump are using leftist sources as primary source material. Please note right up front, I’m not speaking to any Democrat, leftist, SJW, or the like who is opposed to The Don.

It’s easy to understand why conservatives would be tempted to use these sources. When you oppose someone you naturally gravitate toward anything that also opposes that person, but we need to remember that we are supposed to be the people with core values that we should uphold. One of those core values should be the value of truth, and let’s face it, the NY Times only prints the truth about anyone with an R after their name by accident. Their many falsehoods have been documented. Especially the recent one about Rick Perry.

I admit, I was and am dismayed by Perry’s apparent kowtowing to global cooling global warming climate change, but I can oppose him on that topic without resorting to the kinds of lies we find in the Democrat Media. The same goes for his new master who gladly handed over 30 pieces of silver… we can find plenty to bring against The Don without empowering those who speak the language of the Prince of Lies.

Also worth mentioning, relying on these sources will often find a good conservative having to backtrack as the falsehoods in the source are exposed. That will lead to a corrosion of our credibility, and we certainly don’t need or want that, do we?

Let us stand on our principles, and let our principles include a re-dedication to the value of truth. Leave the bald-faced lies to the Democrats. We’re supposed to be better than they are.

  1. Great post. I agree completely. Some NeverTrumpers are starting to exhibit signs of Trump Derangement Syndrome. I had already promised myself, after 8 years of watching the Left suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome, that I was not going to do that with Obama. I think I was successful. And as much as I do not like Trump, am worried about what he will do, his behavior, his words, etc., I have the same promise – I will praise him when he does something good (read: conservative) and I will criticize him when he does something wrong or bad.

It does not help this country to get deranged about your political opponents, hating them just to hate. Or believing everything that is written about him, especially coming from the left.
