It has been said that revolutionaries eventually, if they win, become just as bad as the ones they were trying to replace. America is seeing the same thing happen with the Trump-supporting “anti-elitists.”
Elite groups are known for being insular and highly dismissive of people that are seen as non-elites. We saw this in both Obama and Hillary supporters, demeaning anyone not supporting their candidate as “racist,” “sexist,” and just general “right-wing bigots.”
The Trumpeters have followed suit. If you don’t agree with everything Trump does, you’re a “progressive,” a “cuck,” and a “globalist,” no matter how good your conservative bona fides are.
It’s all about being part of the “cool group,” and many Trump supporters are the kinds of people who’ve never been considered cool in their lives, so they’re lashing out at those they feel excluded them.
Someday even these new elites will be the old elites that people want to kick out of power, and the way things are looking it may be a lot sooner than the Trumpelites think. Maybe they should remember that when dealing with people not in their little clique.
